The 2006 Libris Awards - New National Award For Artists’ Books

Deadline:Friday, 16 December 2005

MACKAY has launched a prestigious new national art prize that is expected to attract entries from around the country. This is the first major national acquisitive prize for artists' books by Australian artists.

The 2006 Libris Awards will be judged by Roger Butler, Senior Curator of Australian Prints, Drawings and Illustrated Books at the National Gallery of Australia and will be awarded in three categories:

Mackay City Council National Artists’ Book Award
($3000 acquisitive)

Blue Horizons Regional Artists’ Books Award
($1500 acquisitive)

Mackay Queensland Homes Young and Emerging Artist Book Award
($500 acquisitive)

The artists’ books entered into the Libris Awards will be displayed at Artspace Mackay from 3 February- 26 March 2006 to coincide with the 3rd Australian Artists’ Books Forum on 25 and 26 February, with the winning works being announced at the conference opening on Friday, 24 February 2006.

WRITE IN YOUR FACE 2006

Deadline: 9 December 2005.

The Australia Council’s Literature board invites proposals from young writers who are using language in innovative ways. Such as: writing for zines, e-zines, comics, multimedia, multi-artforms, websites, live performance and spoken word.

You must be aged 30 years or under to apply.

Selection criteria:
• innovative excellence
• potential to advance the artistic expression and development of young writers
• evidence the project is well-planned and achievable within timeframe and budget.

You may apply for up to $5,000.

Projects should not commence before 1 May 2006 and must be completed by 30 April 2007.

Podlove

Deadline: 10 March 2006.

Podlove is a new initiative developed and funded by the AFC and SBSi. Its aim is to explore the impact of digital communications on our relationships with friends, family, lovers and strangers.

The five best documentaries (of five minutes each) will be broadcast on SBS Television. Being pod-films, they will also be pod-cast on a new interactive website.

Digital technology means no limits so live action, animation, composite imagery, visual and aural processing, and archival can be sourced for your five-minute short film.

Is Not Magazine is the work of five young Melburnians, is independently published, is dreamt up in living rooms and bars, has no advertisements and comes in the form of a 1.5m x 2m bill poster.

It can be seen at 32 Criterion Street, Hobart, Tasmania.
